Rurouni Kenshin: Saisen Extends till Jinchu Arc

It was first hinted on the debut trailer that Kenshin's former brother in-law, Yukishiro Enishi will make appearance on the upcoming Rurouni Kenshin 15th Anniversary game, Rurouni Kenshin: Meiji Kenkaku Romantan Saisen. Just recently, Famitsu confirms it with more screenshots of Enishi's lackeys, Inui and Otowa!

To those who don't know Enishi, he appeared after the Kyoto Arc in the original manga. His only anime appearance was on the OVA called, Samurai X: Trust and Betrayal. Enishi never made an actual appearance in the original TV series due it to it being canceled because of low ratings due to the amount of filler episodes.

His mission? To take revenge on Kenshin for what he did years ago and give Kenshin his own judgment (in Japanese, jinchu which opposes Kenshin's tenchu which means judgment upon the heavens) and thus, along with his relationship with Enishi, Kenshin's past love affair with his sister, Tomoe and more of Kenshin's dark past are slowly being revealed.

Anyways, here are some screenshots with Enishi's lackeys, Inui and Otowa! Since I haven't started reading the original manga yet, I will leave the judgment on who's who to you.

Original Chapter 1 One Piece Art Boards Reproduced!

The Japanese publisher, Shueisha announced that it will reproduce the original manga art boards that Eiichiro Oda drew for the first chapter of his One Piece pirate manga! One Piece Chapter 1 Reproduction Art Board Box: Romance Dawn set will replicate all 53 original manuscript pages, including 16 in full color and in their original size.

Wondering what is the original size? Oda and other artists draw their manga on B4-size or 9.84x13.9-inch  sheets before printers shrink the art about 50% for the magazine pages and even more for the book volumes.

It will feature glimpses of Oda's handwritten dialogue, the typeset dialogue affixed on top of his handwriting, and even the color inks seeping through to the reverse side of the sheets.

The box celebrates the fact that 200 million copies of One Piece are now in print. Oda is supervising the design of the box, which will come with a serial-numbered certificate. The print run is limited to pre-orders, and the box will ship on August 4 for 10,000 yen (about US$120).

Cross Epoch Manga Review

With Cross Epoch being released in the US via the 100th issue of Shonen Jump, I guess it is time for me to review the only crossover between Dragon Ball and One Piece. Unlike any other crossover, it has its own story and a different take on the characters and does not involve epic battles but about friends gathered by the mystical dragon, Shenron.

Cross Epoch is a collaboration between Dragon Ball’s Akira Toriyama and One Piece’s Eiichiro Oda who just met, learned that they are fans of each others manga and decided to do a one-shot story about Dragon Ball and One Piece characters meeting.

The story begins with all the Dragon Ball and One Piece characters in a group. Krillin is with Chopper and they are driving a train, Bulma is with Nami and they are robbers… SPACE robbers! While Master Roshi and Sanji, the sheriffs learning about the robbery, and the fact that the robbers are chicks, and obviously, these perverts will chase them!

Vegeta, Trunks, Robin and Usopp are pirates, while Piccolo and Zoro are lost and plans to steal the train that Krillin and Chopper are driving, and ends up being passengers on the said train! Finally, Goku and Luffy are heading to somewhere, like the other characters before them!

Blocking them is Tettiri no.55, a papier-mâché air ship owned by the weakest villains from Dragon Ball and One Piece, Pilaf and Buggy the Clown! With them blocking their way, can Goku and friends go to that place that they want to go? That is for you to find out.

On to the review, if you read the one-shot for the first time, you will find it senseless, I am dead serious. Why, it is because the aim of the story is really weird, it doesn’t involve something serious but something fun, something illogical that you might end up thinking about Alice in Wonderland and what the heck is the story all about!

Unlike most crossovers, that I know that involves two very diverse series meeting for each other, what Toriyama and Oda did is that they created a separate universe and let their characters meet and like they know each other for a long time. This is good because it is a 19-page one-shot and they need to give us a story that would fit with the allotted number of pages!

What makes it a plus because it removes the awkwardness of the characters meeting for the first time and goes straight to the point on how they will interact with each other. And it is fun to see two perverts talking about chasing chicks instead of going for trouble and seeing Luffy riding Kintoun, which proves that even if he is a pirate in a different world, he has a pure heart!

Shenron, chillin'

As for the plot, to sum the entire one-shot, it is about all of our characters having a tea party with Shenron! See how senseless it was? But at some point, it makes sense. What Tori and Oda did here is that they abused one plot point from Dragon Ball. What happens to the Dragon Balls that needs to rest for a year? In this universe, Shenron is having a tea party with his friends! It was weird seeing Shenron holding a teacup while waiting for Goku and Luffy to arrive. But hey, at least Shenron is enjoying himself and does not have plans to stop granting wishes!

As for the characters, I love that they retained most of their personalities and their costumes for this series! My only disappointed is that they introduced many characters and never had time to play with all of them within 19 pages.

Overall, Crosh Epoch is one senseless yet fun read. It is senseless because it is about their adventure of having tea with the mystical dragon and fun because it is senseless! The entire chapter reminisce the adventure feel of the original Dragon Ball manga, one of the aspect that I liked about this chapter asides how they are grouped with characters that are similar to them (i.e. Nami with Bulma, Goku with Luffy, etc.) and how they interact with each other (points at Roshi and Sanji). If you want some clean and senseless fun, better read this one-shot then! We will not know if Toriyama and Oda will do a collaboration after this one or if Toei has plans to do a Dragon Ball x One Piece movie in the future!

KPop Boom Lies Manga Spurs Controversy with Korean Netizens

Just recently, a manga called, An Analysis of the KPop Boom Lies which is according to the authors of the said manga is based on the information that they acquired which depicts the "dirty" side of the Korean music industry.

The manga shows former Korean girl group idols-turned-hostesses revealing dirty secrets regarding the Korean music industry. The said manga even talks about the suicide of Korean actress, Jang Ja-yeon, last year. Jang claimed in her suicide note that she had been forced into sex with top figures in the entertainment and business world.

The manga repeats words such as “suicide,” “lobby” and “corruption” and “sex-for-favor,” which is intended according to netizens, to ruin the image of the Korean entertainment industry and the Hallyu boom in Japan.

Popular Korean idol groups such as, Girls' Generation and KARA appeared in the manga with their trademark outfits and their names. Their respective agencies are considering measures to deal with the said manga. Girls’ Generation’s agency SM Entertainment reportedly said they are currently in discussion with lawyers in Japan to take strong countermeasures.

Arsène Lupin Manga Adaptation Released!

Known Gundam manga-ka, Takashi Morita, has launched a new series called Adventurier - Shinsetsu Arsène Lupin in this year's third issue of Evening!

xxxHOLiC: Rō Manga Ends

Sad news for fans of CLAMP's xxxHOLiC, Kodansha has confirmed on its website that CLAMP will run the final chapter of the xxxHOLiC: Rō in the March issue of Bessatsu Shonen Magazine on February 9.

The 19th Volume of xxxHOLiC will ship with an OAD (Original Animation DVD) in Japan in March.

To those who don't know the plot, it is continues the plot left in the original series and this time, it is about Yuuko's time flow finally starts moving again, after being alive for an unknown amount of years she must depart now since she can't be hold by the world of the living any longer. 

During her final moments she faces Watanuki, her loyal servant and friend and makes her final wish, "stay alive". So Watanuki made the promise to remain in the store of the wishes until they meet again. Many years later he still keeps that promise giving hope but also taking important belongings from those who ever come to him to make a wish.

Kyojin no Hoshi Artist Refuses Tokyo Anime Award

Noboru Kawasaki, the artist of the classic baseball manga, Kyojin no Hoshi (Star of the Giants) has just refused to received the Tokyo Anime Award (an award that recognizes his contribution in manga and anime) according to Takeshi Nogami's Twitter account!

This award is planned to be given at the Tokyo International Anime Fair (TAF) and he was able to made this decision of not receiving this award after consulting Machiko Satonaka (Lady Ann), the executive director of the Japan Cartoonist Association and decided to turn it down considering the issue regarding the Youth Ordinance Bill.

Because of this refusal, the people from Tokyo proposed to give the award to him any other day asides from TAF but he still refused. Nogami said Tokyo officials got flurried by his unexpected refusal.

Anime and Manga Regulation Bill To Pass Tokyo Metropolitan Assembly

This kind of incest will never happen... again.

According to Ito Masaki's official blog, one of the members of Tokyo Metropolitan Assembly, the ruling party, the Democratic Party of Japan has decided to approve the Anime and Manga Regulation Bill.

The other two major parties have already approved the bill, so it will pass the assembly on December 15. DPJ agreed with the bill on condition that the resolution will be made with a collateral claim for a careful operation of the regulation. However, the collateral claim is not legally binding. The regulation will be enforced on July 1, 2011.

Manga-ka, Takaku Shoko tweeted that one of the major publishers turned her manga down because one of the characters in a high school uniform could contravene the local ordinance of Tokyo. She was frightened to know that the bill has already made the industry flinch.

Anime and Manga Regulation Bill To Pass Tokyo Metropolitan Assembly

This kind of incest will never happen... again.

According to Ito Masaki's official blog, one of the members of Tokyo Metropolitan Assembly, the ruling party, the Democratic Party of Japan has decided to approve the Anime and Manga Regulation Bill.

The other two major parties have already approved the bill, so it will pass the assembly on December 15. DPJ agreed with the bill on condition that the resolution will be made with a collateral claim for a careful operation of the regulation. However, the collateral claim is not legally binding. The regulation will be enforced on July 1, 2011.

Manga-ka, Takaku Shoko tweeted that one of the major publishers turned her manga down because one of the characters in a high school uniform could contravene the local ordinance of Tokyo. She was frightened to know that the bill has already made the industry flinch.
