Oreimo #12 True Route to be Streamed!

It was announced on Ore no Imouto ga Konnani Kawaii Wake ga Nai's (Oreimo) official website that the episode 12 of the True Route version of the anime will stream in late February for two weeks!

The three sites are Nico Nico Douga, Showtime, and Moviegate (mobile site & iPhone, iPad). More details will be announced in the March issue of Dengeki G's Magazine.

It was explained last time by Aniplex producer. Atsuhiro Iwakami that there are two versions of episode 12, one being the "good end" and the other, being the "true route" of the story which will end at episode 15.

OreImo's Siscalypse Game Offered in Japan

Just recently, Kadokawa Contents Gate launched Shin Imōto Taisen Siscalypse (True Little Sister Apocalypse Sispocalypse), the fictional game seen within the OreImo anime series, as an actual game on the Yahoo! MobaGe service in Japan on Thursday.

In the anime, a boy discovers that his little sister is a secret fan of adult computer games, including Siscalypse. The basic game of the real-life Siscalypse is free with Yahoo! Japan ID and MobaGe ID accounts, although Kadokawa Contents Gate plans to charge for items that will be added in the future.

The game seen in the anime has been turned into a 2D battle social game in real life. The player selects a "little sister" character and chooses between several playing modes: versus a computer-controlled character, versus other users, a cooperative mode with a friend on the service, or a single-player campaign mode against computer-controlled characters.

By fighting many kinds of battles, the player can gain experience points and use them to make the little sister character stronger. From there, the player can get new “little sister” characters, super special moves for the characters, rare items, events with prizes on the line, and various other features that Kadokawa Contents Gate will add to the game in the future.

OreImo's Siscalypse Game Offered in Japan

Just recently, Kadokawa Contents Gate launched Shin Imōto Taisen Siscalypse (True Little Sister Apocalypse Sispocalypse), the fictional game seen within the OreImo anime series, as an actual game on the Yahoo! MobaGe service in Japan on Thursday.

The official website of Oreimo confirmed that there would be eight volumes of their respective BluRay/DVD release, and every volume contains two episodes. Making volumes 7 and 8 having two extra episodes each!

It was listed that the TV run will have 12 episodes ending with Ore no Imōto no Jinsei Sōdan ga Kore de Owaru Wake ga Nai -Good End-. According to an unconfirmed rumor, on a live event that happened on December 5, Aniplex announced that the series end like what the last part of it, will be the "good end" of the series. But as we all know, the series has eroge and visual novel references, in short there would be a true end.

Accordingly, a different episode 11 will air online which will branch out from the TV series run. Which will be followed by episodes 12-15, with the 15 episode being called the "true end."

The seventh and eighth volumes will be shipped on June 22 and July 27, 2011.

Oreimo 08 – My City: The Animation (Behind the Scenes)

We have reported last time that this episode of Oreimo has been resented by an anime producer due to the exaggeration of the courtroom, I mean, anime production meetings with the characters, and I do not see why he will get pissed. So, here are the key events on the episode and my review of it.

Kirino’s light novel, My City in which she did a research in the previous episode, has received tons of fan mail and as pointed later in the series, they all came from male fans and with that in mind, I suddenly remembered Mitsudomoe’s author, who apparently is a girl and just like Kirino, she is cute! You don’t believe me? Go Google it!

Due to its popularity, they decided to turn it into an anime with Kirino asked help with Saori and Kuroneko to give their opinions with it once they started the meeting with it. Kirino was ecstatic about her first novel will become an anime! Heck, everyone will be ecstatic if that happened!

Now the meeting begins, and after Kirino gives all of her suggestions, it all boils down to this. The producer, the director and the rest of the staff starts doing their respective, “Hate to break it to you but…” which ends up Kirino severely depressed especially with what the producer said about changing the protagonist from a girl into a boy due to its little sister theme!

So on the next day, Kirino became sick and his brother, after learning the incident decides to proxy for her sister along with Saori and Kuroneko. Same bashing begins, rada, rada, and at the end, Kuroneko speaks with her mind about the novel about being crap and all that and they creating a different anime not based from the original source. And I completely agree with her. The plot of having a big sister save little girls is weird… especially if a chick writes it!

After all the bashing, his brother starts to beg to stick with the ideas that her sister planned since that book is her work and the animators job is to turn it into an anime, not to create an original story based on source! At the end, the anime is still 13 episodes not what Kirino planned that it would be 51 episodes, most of her plans stays intact especially about the character designer and about the protagonist. At the end of the episode, Kirino said that the next life counseling would be the last one.

For a Random Review, it is rare that I will right a synopsis! Anyways, here is what I can say about this episode.

The episode was probably one of the best episodes this anime offered. I don’t care on what the producer said that it is a complete exaggeration of their work. If he is hurt with what the episode did, it simply means that all that the fans see in this episode is TRUE about producers. That they are devils that wear pale clothes that is willing to tear you apart until they are satisfied with the end result… or if they are smiling already.

Aside from that, fans now learn the trials that their favorite light novel must face for it to be turned into an anime. In Kirino’s case, aside that this title was “rushed” for it to air in the Summer season, the producers wanted to butcher her title for it to reach a wide range of audience!

For starters, I am aware of the changes the producers did for a certain anime if they want it to air on TV, take for instance, Tenjo Tenge in which, if you have read the manga, you see the vast changes they did for it to air on TV. You know the changes that I am talking about. Another instance is those titles that received original endings such as the first Fullmetal Alchemist series. But the type of changes that the producers want for the title for it to become a hit is a complete butchering of what the author intended! Heck, I would be pissed if I will learn that the story that I have written will be turned into an anime but at the end, it would be butchered for it to fit a target audience! I would rather let it stay as a novel or find another producer who wants to stay as close as the source material as possible!

In this episode, aside from a new opening animation, we met Ms. Fate, Kirino’s editor. My first impression about her, she is simple. She never made an impression on me. Period.

Even if this episode focuses on making Kirino’s light novel, My City into an anime, this is one of the episodes in which I love Kuroneko’s character aside that she is a good contrast to Kirino’s extremely cheery nature. In this episode, we saw even with her grudge against Kirino for having written only a single novel and it became an instant hit while she, having written tons of material, studying her mistakes, none of those titles was published. This is when we truly saw her character. She will forget her own pride just to support a friend in which her novel will be turned into an anime and it would be butchered soon if they would not do anything.

The other regulars, such as Kirino and co. nah, they are not quite interesting in this episode. About her brother, he is still the same, nothing major.

Overall, aside that it shed some light about the process on how an source material will be turned into an anime, even according to a certain producer is exaggeration… well, just lessen the exaggeration it will still be the same! This episode is probably one of the most realistic aspects of this title that talks about a perfect girl who apparently, is an otaku and now, she now fulfills what most otakus dream, to see her work to be turned into an anime.

School Days Producer Resents Oreimo 8

On the eight episode of Ore no Imouto ga Konnani Kawaii Wake ga Nai (Trans. My Sister Can't be this Cute), also known as Oreimo, Ito Makoto (School Days, 11eyes) tweets that he was not happy with the episode.

To those who are wondering, the said episode talks about a dispute between an anime producer, who wants to alter the story of the original novel to make the anime more catchy and profitable, and the original author, who opposes to the alternation. Ito said, it is an exaggeration between the disputes of the two sides and it should never be made into a joke.

The relationship between anime producers and original authors is a delicate issue in the first place. Why did they make it more complicated? It's our job to create a cooperative environment with the original authors. It's never occurred in my anime projects that the both sides take a hostile attitude to each other.

The director of the series, Masunari Koji was also depressed to watch the episode and said "I realized how anime producers are looked by the original authors."

First Five Episodes – Fall 2010 Set

Fall 2010 titles... a good mix between mediocre and awesome.

I have been watching six new anime titles this Fall anime season, and one of those titles I decided to drop on its fifth episode and I am planning to drop another one once I am not that satisfied with it. Here is my quick review on the six titles that I watched this Fall… in alphabetical order. Why this is called, First Five? Because the best way to know if you will drop the title or not in my opinion is by watching the first five episodes.

Bakuman

The title is about two boys, Moritaka and Akito who dreams in creating a manga… well, it was Akito first who want to become a manga artist but because of the stroke of fate, Moritaka ended up becoming one of those gamblers that his uncle described.

The first five episodes of the anime are strong and at the same time, inspiring. Surprisingly, the one who created the original manga were the ones responsible for the classic supernatural title, Death Note! Like I mentioned in my review on the first episode, I was skeptical at first about this title because Death Note left a strong impression on most fans and I am not sure if Bakuman can succeed to its success that its predecessor left. But the Ohba-Obata tandem never failed to impress me on this one!

Sure, it was vastly different from Death Note but this title has a certain charm in it that I want to continue watching it. Maybe its charm is in its comedy, or maybe is the genetics aspect of it, or maybe it is just about two vastly different persons dreaming on becoming a famous manga-ka someday.

Aside from that, it gives us viewers a guide on how to create a manga. If my memory serves me correctly, no one attempted to do a title entirely based on it, but if someone attempted it was quite underrated or no one knows about it.

Will I continue watching it? Yep. Since the source is still on-going, if they don’t want this title to end up like Naruto or Bleach with an army of fillers, I smell that this series might stop at a certain arc of the manga… or maybe to an original ending depending on the whims of the writers.

Iron Man

The title is about Tony Stark being in Japan for his arc reactor project with Lab #23 and a secret organization called Zodiac wants his head. That simple. The first episode kinda hints that this would be an episodic series with Tony fighting every member of Zodiac… I was wrong on that part. In the third episode, he fought a mad scientist, and the following eps, some various problems caused by Zodiac.

The series is more concentrated on Tony and his arc reactor project and Zodiac doesn’t want it to succeed. The CGI Iron Man suit is one of the few factors that I hated in this title, and for the first time, I have watched a mediocre Madhouse title. From the first five episodes, the next three episodes are the ones that stood up. In ep 3, we see Tony’s human side, ep 4, is a flashback episode with a Wolverine cameo and ep 5 is an episode in which everyone is a victim of a strong radiation coming from space!

One thing that I noticed this title is the fact that it felt like a regular tokusatsu episode… which is a good thing in way, heck; I can say that I can consider Iron Man a Metal Hero since he is in Japan right now. What’s keep me glued on Iron Man right now is the plot twist on the 4th episode regarding Yinsen, the person that you might call Tony’s indirect mentor as a superhero. But on the next episode, the fact that he learned that Yinsen is still alive didn’t affect him still bothers me right now. Plot hole?

Will I continue watching it? Yes since this series will last for 12-16 episodes and the Yinsen twist is really good.

Ore no Imouto

The title is about Kyosuke who learns that his perfect sister, Kirino is not that perfect at all. She loves magical girls and eroge, to exact, those titles that involve brother-sister incest relationships! She is an otaku and she doesn’t want her perfect life to be ruined by his hobby. Therefore, Kyosuke ends up helping her.

Few words. This. Is. Heaven. As an otaku, moe is one of the factors that keep us glued in our screens. Add the fact that she is an otaku, plus points! The series is filled with female otaku culture, which is quite interesting considering that I barely knew their culture! Aside from that, the amount of references to eroge keeps me glued in this title. Add the fact that it is comedy!

In the later parts of the series, it seems that Kiririn is slowly felling in love (?) with his elder brother, kinda like those eroge with the younger sister squealing onii-chan or aniki. Animation wise, the colors looks good, the animation kinda reminded me of Seto no Hanoyame (My Bride is a Mermaid) oh, no surprise, AIC are the ones behind both titles!

Will I continue watching it? Yep. Accordingly, it will last for 13 episodes; I expect more development with the relationship of the siblings!

Shiryaku! Ika Musume

Also known as Squid Girl, it is about Ika Musume who came from beneath the ocean and decides to conquer humanity because of their actions against the ocean! First, she must invade the beach house as the family owning it is slaving her because of her damages she made in her first appearance!

Okay, this smells like Sgt. Keroro except that we have a girl with squid qualities. That’s it. Aside from that, a single episode composes of three parts, kinda like a standard western cartoon. Animation wise, no problem with it… plus the moe factor of this series kinda kept me glued for a while.

Since I mentioned Keroro at the first place, like Keroro’s Platoon, Ika-chan keeps on being distracted in the middle of her invasion, but unlike Keroro who was able to step in the first base, Ika-chan never, I repeat, NEVER, reached the first base! Heck, she is scared in the eldest sister!

Will I continue watching it? As of now, nope, I will drop it once I am not satisfied in the consecutive episodes, or if I am sure that Ika-chan will not succeed, which is obvious! If there is a plot twist in the story to keep me glued, I might continue with it.

Star Driver

Takuto came in an island to enjoy his youth in which he learns about a secret group working underground to unseal the maidens of the islands… err, seals. Using his mecha, Tauburn, he stops the members of the Glittering Crux with their plans of destroying the seals and use the Cybodies (the mecha of the series) outside Zero Time for their own personal gain.

Probably one of the flashiest titles that I have seen, the first five episodes were interesting but none of them are worth that talking about less the first episode is worth talking because of its flashiness… and that’s it. That is why I never reviewed the first one.

The character designs felt like is was fit for a shojo title. The male characters are too slender and too beautiful that would cause yaoi fanfiction writers to spur various situations with it! Heck, Wako has been thinking of it in an episode! The female characters are okay, only a few female characters stand out in my own opinion.

As for the concept, it was igneous to begin with. Fighting in Zero Time was fun and this sort of Shaider nostalgia in me while watching it. Why Shaider? In Shaider, there are some instances that Shaider must fight in a different time space thanks to Poe’s (Or Ida if you watched the Filipino dub) time space warp.

The mecha designs here are in its extremes. Its either the body is too slender or the joints are too large. The proportions of the mecha suck in my own opinion, from the mechas seen in this series, only Tauburn stood out. None of the episodic mechas left a good impression on me. The only one that left a good mark was on that mecha that Tauburn first dueled with swords.

Will I continue watching it? Probably. The latest arc of the series which is about Sugata having the strongest Cybody and now, he is on a coma because he used it to protect Wako (Gee, that Mary Sue).

What is the title that I dropped before reaching episode 5? Panty and Stocking with Garterbelt. Why? Because the series screams western animation in it, sure it was a fun story with Panty addicted to sex and Stocking addicted to sweets to make matters worst, they need to collect coins for them to return to heaven. Wait. What?!

The series was a fun series but I am not sure will it end. Because of its art style, I am quite sure that it might last for a long time. If I am sure of the length of this title, I might continue watching this one.

Will I do the same treatment next Winter 2011 anime season? Yes because of the upcoming titles that are interesting... for me.

Ore no Imouto

The title is about Kyosuke who learns that his perfect sister, Kirino is not that perfect at all. She loves magical girls and eroge, to exact, those titles that involve brother-sister incest relationships! She is an otaku and she doesn’t want her perfect life to be ruined by his hobby. Therefore, Kyosuke ends up helping her.

Few words. This. Is. Heaven. As an otaku, moe is one of the factors that keep us glued in our screens. Add the fact that she is an otaku, plus points! The series is filled with female otaku culture, which is quite interesting considering that I barely knew their culture! Aside from that, the amount of references to eroge keeps me glued in this title. Add the fact that it is comedy!

In the later parts of the series, it seems that Kiririn is slowly felling in love (?) with his elder brother, kinda like those eroge with the younger sister squealing onii-chan or aniki. Animation wise, the colors looks good, the animation kinda reminded me of Seto no Hanoyame (My Bride is a Mermaid) oh, no surprise, AIC are the ones behind both titles!

Will I continue watching it? Yep. Accordingly, it will last for 13 episodes; I expect more development with the relationship of the siblings!

Shiryaku! Ika Musume

Also known as Squid Girl, it is about Ika Musume who came from beneath the ocean and decides to conquer humanity because of their actions against the ocean! First, she must invade the beach house as the family owning it is slaving her because of her damages she made in her first appearance!

Okay, this smells like Sgt. Keroro except that we have a girl with squid qualities. That’s it. Aside from that, a single episode composes of three parts, kinda like a standard western cartoon. Animation wise, no problem with it… plus the moe factor of this series kinda kept me glued for a while.

Since I mentioned Keroro at the first place, like Keroro’s Platoon, Ika-chan keeps on being distracted in the middle of her invasion, but unlike Keroro who was able to step in the first base, Ika-chan never, I repeat, NEVER, reached the first base! Heck, she is scared in the eldest sister!

Will I continue watching it? As of now, nope, I will drop it once I am not satisfied in the consecutive episodes, or if I am sure that Ika-chan will not succeed, which is obvious! If there is a plot twist in the story to keep me glued, I might continue with it.

Star Driver

Takuto came in an island to enjoy his youth in which he learns about a secret group working underground to unseal the maidens of the islands… err, seals. Using his mecha, Tauburn, he stops the members of the Glittering Crux with their plans of destroying the seals and use the Cybodies (the mecha of the series) outside Zero Time for their own personal gain.

Probably one of the flashiest titles that I have seen, the first five episodes were interesting but none of them are worth that talking about less the first episode is worth talking because of its flashiness… and that’s it. That is why I never reviewed the first one.

The character designs felt like is was fit for a shojo title. The male characters are too slender and too beautiful that would cause yaoi fanfiction writers to spur various situations with it! Heck, Wako has been thinking of it in an episode! The female characters are okay, only a few female characters stand out in my own opinion.

As for the concept, it was igneous to begin with. Fighting in Zero Time was fun and this sort of Shaider nostalgia in me while watching it. Why Shaider? In Shaider, there are some instances that Shaider must fight in a different time space thanks to Poe’s (Or Ida if you watched the Filipino dub) time space warp.

The mecha designs here are in its extremes. Its either the body is too slender or the joints are too large. The proportions of the mecha suck in my own opinion, from the mechas seen in this series, only Tauburn stood out. None of the episodic mechas left a good impression on me. The only one that left a good mark was on that mecha that Tauburn first dueled with swords.

Will I continue watching it? Probably. The latest arc of the series which is about Sugata having the strongest Cybody and now, he is on a coma because he used it to protect Wako (Gee, that Mary Sue).

What is the title that I dropped before reaching episode 5? Panty and Stocking with Garterbelt. Why? Because the series screams western animation in it, sure it was a fun story with Panty addicted to sex and Stocking addicted to sweets to make matters worst, they need to collect coins for them to return to heaven. Wait. What?!

The series was a fun series but I am not sure will it end. Because of its art style, I am quite sure that it might last for a long time. If I am sure of the length of this title, I might continue watching this one.

Will I do the same treatment next Winter 2011 anime season? Yes because of the upcoming titles that are interesting... for me.
